So I read through #hive 's TOS after seeing some worrying stuff about it on the hashtag and hoo boy there are some major red flags. Also, even being moderately well-versed in the eccentricities of legal jargon, some of the sentences had *really* odd grammar and there were a few spelling mistakes.
Other gripes:
- The "Ownership & License" portion reeks of DeviantArt's policies
- What does you owning any "interest in your content" entail? They spelled all other terms out but didn't flesh this out
@stux Hey Stux, quick question that might not have a straightforward answer.. How do you do disc space management? I have a really simple instance spun up, and unsure if there's a streamlined way to move old data into a cold store of some kind (or just keep a backup of).
Thanks for all the info you share.
Like I was telling a friend, seeing folks scrambling for whatever social media life raft they can find, and it's painful to watch.
At first #mastodon was pushed, and many moved over, but for the rest, "iT'S ToO CoMpLiCaTeD".
So, yesterday #cohost was the new hotness.
Today it's #hive.
Tomorrow...?
Going from one ruined, disgraced centralized service over to ANOTHER centralized service so we can do this dance all over again.
Worse, they aren't actually vetting the sites. Zero thought goes into what these fly-by-night opportunity vultures are actually like. Who's behind them? How long they can realistically stay up? Any 4-bit asshat can boot up a pretty Twitter-clone.
At least with #Mastodon if the guy running your server turns out to be an asshole, you can just hit the bricks and move elsewhere. Good luck doing that with whatever flavor of the day you flocked over.
The beast will still be here, at least, when the next apocalypse happens
What's it with people reporting every single one they dont like..
Please, stop with that.
This is not #Twitter. Please use features like mute or block if you don't like people but stop reporting otherwise I'll start banning people who keep reporting for nothing
I'm trying to keep things running with so many new people and it's such a waste of time to hear whatever you don't like
Otherwise go waste Elon's time, not mine
If you are on mstdn.social, masto.ai, or mastodon.coffee, consider sending @stux some money for coffee or support him on Patreon!
Maybe you saw the news today that a Twitter engineer got fired by Elon, over Twitter.
I talked to him.
Hours have gone by and he's still had no messaging from the company.
He doesn't even know where to send his company laptop.

Signal created targeted ads for Instagram that show the personal data that Facebook collects about you and sells access to.
They were blocked.

Ah, the OpenSSL 1.1.1 advisory for CVE-2021-3450 and CVE-2021-3449 is now out officially:
Still trying to figure out federated social media. Lost in the blogosphere.
